During the famous Spoleto Festival in Charleston, the City Gallery holds a special juried exhibition, and guess what? I got juried in!

Surprise, surprise… my strong rebellious piece “I don’t give a f*ck” was the one chosen to show. Some people say Charleston is quite conservative and this is the reason why I created this piece in the first place (after receiving some bad criticism for my nudes), so I am thrilled to see it getting displayed at such an important venue!

I understand the South comes from a conservative and traditional culture, and I respect that. However, considering Charleston is growing at an astronomical pace, receiving people from all over the country (and the world, like myself) it is no surprise the mindset is changing.

Art has always played an important role in making people question important things, and although my “bread and butter” art is based on local scenery, I have another angle to my creations that focus on sending a message for people to think about.

Getting recognition for this piece means A LOT to me and it certainly gives me fuel to continue on this path.

I am bringing the painting in next week and once I have information on the show I’ll post again. Stay tuned!

UPDATE:

Our juror’s talk with Arianne King Comer will be Thursday, May 30 at 5pm. Please bring friends and family. After we walk through the gallery with her to discuss the works, we’ll have a glass of wine along with the poets and attendees from the Piccolo Spoleto Sundown Poetry Series.

Buy a GICLEE PRINT of this painting.
